Rented a car in Spain for 5 days at the end of June completely over the internet...no hassles, minimum time investment arranging the rental, and very reasonable rates. This company is apparently a clearinghouse for many car rental companies. We picked up and dropped off at Alamo offices with no dropoff penalty. They'll give you instant quotes on their website with no commitments. www.rentacar-europe.comEnjoy.

Hey Gordo, good to see ya checking in after your Spain trip I learn somethign new every day, I had no idea about that rentacar-europe site but it looks pretty good. Hey jfrv, I moved this thread to the transportation forum "getting there y moving around" since you mistakenly started it in the "jeremy's multimadrid" forum which is for feedback on my site and anouncements on additions only. Not sure if you have seen it already but there is a good thread on car rentals, JUST CLICK HERE TO GO TO IT Saludos, jer...

Hey Jer - yes I'm back every once in a while checking the board. I had to go cold turkey for a while because 1) it was feeding my post Spain vacation depression and 2) I wasn't getting much done at work. Hey Jfrv - I hope I can shed some light on how the insurance worked for my rental or at least my best interpretation of the fine print. The charge for the rental included 1) 3rd party liability insurance (damage to other property and vehicles 2) theft protection insurance and the most important 3) collision damage waiver or CDW. Here's how they don't charge too much for the above. Just like your insurance in the States, they have a deductable for #'s 2 and 3 above. It will probably be between $300 and $400 depending on the car of choice. The bottom line: if something happens, you pay the first $300 to $400 of the damage, they cover the rest. If that sounds scary, there's an additional approx. $10/day you could pay (I think they call it "supercover")to reduce the amount of the deductable. Sorry for the long explanation :z: ...but that's the unfortunate (or fortunate) world of insurance. If you have more specific questions, the phone # for the company that I mentioned in the previous post is +44 28 4272 8189. They are based in Northern Ireland. Hope that helped!
